Policy jump: National pension service for all public sector

Alright, after another long delay of me not posting, let’s get straight into it:

I think public service pensions can benefit from being organized into a single, national pension plan. No more ‘hodge-podge’ of different public service pension funds out there covering local, provincial and federal governments. Let’s make it easy for public sector workers to move between jobs, provinces, etc. and not have to also figure out what is happening to their accrued pensions. Because having to transfer pension funds is, frankly, annoying.

Public sector workers should absolutely be encouraged to move to different services and apply their skills. And wondering if your pension is transferrable shouldn’t be a barrier to moving between different services.

There. I said it. And I’m hoping someone would listen. We talk about about making government efficient. But these are some of the ways that we can help public sector employees feel at ease in making those transitions.

Let me know if I’m missing something in the comments!
